In case you wouldn't know yet, European Union just received the Nobel prize, this 12/10/2012 ( dd/mm/yy ).
The reason why, globally, according to the jury, is that despise the actual crisis inside EU, the Union managed to keep peace on the continent, worked on Franco-german reunification after the war, on reunification in general, and "fought for human rights", these last decades.
But as in Belgium radio doesn't stop to talk about it since it was announced, I won't extent on the subject.

In my case, I don't really think it's the best choice at all, the EU has became a puppet of banks and market/liberal/capitalist economy, and greatly lacks democracy inside it. I think someone such as Evo Morales for example, would deserve it more, for the improvement he has brought to the indigenous rights (cultural and democratic ones). But as the Nobel jury already made once the dumb choice of giving the price to Obama while he did nothing, I'm not surprised by such a non-sense.

But, the title says everything, what is your opinion about it? If you disagree with their choice, who would have deserved it according to you?

Peace and literature are the two Nobel prizes that are most politicized; they should not exist.

Ron Paul should have won the Nobel Peace Prize.

It should have been given posthumously to the USSR. I say this due to the fact that while the Soviet Union did manage to deter peace in some cases, it provided a powerful counter to US ambitions that have since proven disastrous for peace all over the world...

But, considering no one in their right mind on the Nobel committee would do that...

*sigh*

...the EU it is...

...might as well have given the award to NATO...

The nobel peace prize has been meaningless since it was Henry kissinger while he was bombing Cambodia Vietnam and Laos into ground.

"I don't really think it's the best choice at all, the EU has became a puppet of banks and market/liberal/capitalist economy, and greatly lacks democracy inside it."

Thats completely irrelevant as far as the Nobel peace prize is concerned. The prize is concerned with peace only, its not the Nobel Human rights award, its not the Nobel top Democrat award its the Nobel Peace prize. And the EU by merging the economies of Europe and promoting international thinking a cultural projects has done a very good job maintaining peace amongst its members. Those member nations we should remember were all very wealthy, heavily armed and had centuries of hostility towards each other. They were also in direct competition with each other in the Third world trying to secure their interests after decolonisation.

" I think someone such as Evo Morales for example, would deserve it more, for the improvement he has brought to the indigenous rights (cultural and democratic ones)."

This is all well and good but it has nothing to do with peace between nations does it. In fact by pursuing his policies he brought the poor and indigenous into direct conflict with the wealthy which resulted in a number of poor farmers being killed and the possibility that the richer provinces of Bolivia would attempt to secede increasing violence and tension.

European Union is basically the Soviet Union but with a different ideology. Very original.
